Our New York circle is comprised of the friends, followers, wanderers with and collaborators of Shamandome founders, Windspirit and Early Man, as well as an extensive, vibrant, and infinitely creative pool of friends who are connected, inspired and drawn together by a common interest in shamanism.

Shamanista Circle FAQs

What happens at a monthly journey circle?
We meet at Windspirit's beautiful loft space in NYC's West Village between 6:30 & 7pm.
After smudging each participant with sage and rattle, we sit in circle to introduce ourselves & perhaps share intentions for our journeys.
We call in the spirits of the Four Directions.
We journey to meet with our power animals.
Many participants choose to share their journeys, inviting the wisdom of circle to clarify the messages they received.
We take a short break, after which we rejoin circle and choose a partner for a Paired Journey.
Partners eye-gaze for connection, then journey together.
We share our journeys, receiving the wisdom of circle.
We close circle, offering love and gratitude to the spirits and to each other.
Afterward, we share food, drink, and conversation.

What if I can't make it to NYC?
You can check out our Regional Circles.... or perform an internet search to see if there's a shamanic practice circle near you. Just send us an email, and we'll let you know if we have a practitioner nearby.

Can you teach me to become a shaman?
We promulgate basic shamanic practices, as informed by the work of Michael Harner, which are the birthright of every child of Mother Earth. All life on earth is "shamanic". Only spirit determines who becomes a "shaman". (See our Home Page

Are drugs involved?
While we acknowledge their efficacy and honor the authority of various plant medicines, ours is a medicine-free practice. We use the drum and the rattle to achieve an Altered State of Consciousness (ASC), allowing us to journey with our full faculties engaged, and so we may recall as much detail of our journeys as possible.
This also makes our practice readily accessible to everyone.

Is this practice cultural appropriation?
As shamanistas, we find our own way to honor and invoke spirit, through modalities which are informed by ancestral wisdom found in every early human culture. These basic practices, as described by Michael Harner (as well as many other anthropologists and spiritual historians of note), are global in their prevalence. While we accept the blessing of gifted artifacts and modalities from indigenous practitioners, we don't appropriate any specific ceremonies, songs or ritual paraphernalia of indigenous cultures without their personal guidance and permission.
We gratefully acknowledge the Native Peoples on whose ancestral homelands we gather, as well as the diverse and vibrant Native communities who make their home here today.
